The new Yamaha Nmax 155 has been slowly making its way around the Southeast Asian region and closer to the Philippines. It has already landed in Indonesia, and recently the 2020 model has been launched in Thailand. With this in mind, it may only be a matter of time before it makes its way to Philippines shores. The Yamaha Nmax has been a preferred scooter for a lot of Filipinos, and you would see these scooters across the Philippines, even in the provinces. Most people there who would want to get a bigger and more “premium” scooter would opt for the new Yamaha Nmax 155. Luckily, the new 2020 Nmax 155 is loaded with technology and features.

First off, the 2020 Nmax’s engine is still the same engine from the previous model. It is powered by a single-cylinder SOHC engine with a 155 cc displacement. Power figures go at 14.9 hp with 14.4 Nm of torque at 6,000 RPM. A full tank of gas can carry 6.6 liters of fuel. Among the riding conveniences it can offer, the Nmax 155 is equipped with Idle Start-Stop for added fuel efficiency, Smart Motor Generator, traction control, keyless start system, and smartphone connectivity through the Yamaha Y-Connect app that enables call and message functionality as well as GPS navigation. ABS comes standard with the Nmax 155 but buyers may also opt for a cheaper base variant that doesn’t come with ABS.

At first glance, the 2020 Nmax 155 wouldn’t seem like it’s a newer model. However, subtle changes have been made which takes a good eye to notice. It does sport new body panels and a new headlight that also functions as DRLs. Turn signals are now a little smaller and matched with rear LED split tail lights, resembling its bigger sibling, the XMax 250. Its windshield is now slightly more curved than the previous model.

It should be noted that when the Thailand model was launched, they omitted some of the safety and tech features such as traction control, and smartphone connectivity to keep the costs down. We remain hopeful that the Nmax 155 version that lands on our shores would give us the full tech and safety features available, or a very appealing price tag.
