For the past 20 years, the Suzuki V-Strom has shown to be a reliable choice for ADV motorcycle aficionados all over the world. The V-Strom 650 debuted in 2004 as a smaller and more versatile version of the 1,000cc V-Strom that was first presented in 2002. The two V-Stroms have been introduced in a number of trim levels since then, but they've mostly stuck to their barebones recipe.

Whether you like them or not,Suzuki's V-Strom 1050XT and 650 are solid alternatives in the ADV market, although being several generations behind their rivals in terms of technology. Suzuki, on the other hand, has a reputation for being rather slow when it comes to innovation, especially with its big bikes.  However, it's clear to see that the Japanese manufacturer places a strong emphasis on improving its small bike model range, which is why new model launches are plentiful, particularly in the Asian market.

Suzuki, in particular, controls a significant portion of the low to mid-capacity two-wheeler industry in India. This is obviously highly lucrative, given India is one of the world's largest motorbike marketplaces, with over 15 million two-wheelers sold in 2021.  Suzuki has blended the V-Strom moniker with the tried-and-true Gixxer naked bike formula to meet the ever-growing need for more upscale two-wheelers in the Indian market.

The new adventure bike is known as the V-Strom SX, and we believe it will do exceptionally well in the Philippine market. So, what is the new V-Strom SX all about?   Suzuki obviously spent a lot of time and effort redesigning the bike from the bottom up in order to make it a true entry-level ADV machine. In terms of aesthetics, the new V-Strom SX is a perfect fit for Suzuki's V-Strom model line, including design cues from its larger siblings.

The V-Strom's power output is perfectly suited to most Pinoy commuters' needs. It's powered by a 249cc single-cylinder engine that produces 26.5 horsepower. It comes with long-travel telescopic forks mated to a preload-adjustable rear monoshock. The bike comes to a stop with ABS-equipped disc brakes front and rear. All these features, especially the 19-inch front wheel and long suspension, imply that it's suited for some rough terrain.

In terms of technology, the V-Strom SX features a fully digital instrument panel with Bluetooth smartphone connectivity, allowing riders to receive SMS and call notifications while riding. Even on the darkest nights, a comprehensive system of LED lights ensures optimum visibility. Suzuki's baby ADV costs roughly P140,000, which represents excellent value for money for a machine of this quality. Champion Yellow No. 2, Pearl Blaze Orange, and Glass Sparkle Black are the three colorways available for the new model, and it's expected to make its way to Indian Suzuki dealerships very soon. Do you think the new V-Strom SX has a place in the local market?
