Suzuki launches refreshed GSX-R1000R with Euro5+ compliance

Will we see this top-notch superbike in the Philippines anytime soon?

Suzuki launches refreshed GSX-R1000R with Euro5+ compliance

Suzuki is bringing back the GSX-R1000R for 2026, and it's not holding back. After a brief hiatus to regroup for Euro5+ emissions compliance, the Japanese brand is back in the superbike fight with a heavily updated version of its flagship sportbike—now only available in full-fat R trim.

At the heart of the new GSX-R1000R is a revised 999cc inline-four. It features a new crankshaft, lighter rotating parts, and a bumped-up 13.8:1 compression ratio. Power is rated at 195PS (192hp) at 13,200rpm and 110Nm at 11,000rpm. That’s a bit lower than some rivals on paper, but Suzuki is clearly aiming for long-term reliability and tuning potential over outright spec sheet bragging rights.

The chassis stays familiar with its twin-spar aluminum frame and Showa Balance Free suspension, but Suzuki has added carbon winglets developed for its 2024 Suzuka 8-Hour race bike. These improve high-speed stability without messing with handling. Brembo calipers, 320mm discs, and Bridgestone RS11 tires round out the package.

The electronics suite sees a big leap forward. There’s a six-axis IMU, a 10-level anti-wheelie system, launch control, lean-sensitive ABS, a bi-directional quickshifter, and Suzuki’s new Roll Torque Control System (RTCS)—an advanced traction control system from the GSX-S1000GX. A lithium battery comes standard, helping shave weight and improve cold starts.

To celebrate 40 years of the GSX-R line, Suzuki is offering the new model in three retro liveries: blue/white, red/white, and yellow/matte blue, all with classic graphics and anniversary details.

Will it reach the Philippines? That’s still unclear. Suzuki Philippines has stayed quiet so far, but with renewed global interest in superbikes—and a growing local fanbase—it’s not out of the question.
