MMDA enforces stringent Motorcycle Lane Policy
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is once again enforcing the Motorcycle Lane Policy today. The policy is said to improve traffic flow along major roads as well as reduce the number of fatal accidents involving motorcycles.
The Motorcycle Lane will be enforced along EDSA, C-5, Macapagal Avenue, and Commonwealth Avenue.
With that in mind, MMDA constables are tasked to flag down riders that will be violating the policy. To name a few, helmets must have an ICC/PS Mark Sticker and wearing a slipper while riding is prohibited. Penalties regarding these violations can result to a P 3,000 to P 5,000 and P 500 to P 1,000 fine, respectively.
The riders should also switch on their motorcycles’ headlights even during daytime. More so, it is important to check the motorcycle’s lights before heading out in the road. Failure to do so can leave you with a defective head-, tail-, or brake-light, which can cost P 150 fine.
Of note, there are up to 30 motorcycle-related accidents daily according to the MMDA. On the other hand, the Road Crash Statistical Report noted that from January to April 2016, a total of 7,033 motorcycle accidents were recorded. From this number, 82 cases were regarded as fatal.
