Have you seen the 2024 Honda CBR500R?
The beginner-friendly sportbike has been given styling and tech updates.
The Honda CBR500R occupies a unique space, often overshadowed by the limelight shining on the Ninja 400 and YZF-R3, the favored choices among beginner riders. However, amidst this spotlight, the 500cc CBR500R shouldn't be underestimated. It sets itself apart by mimicking the aggressive styling of Honda's true supersport, the CBR1000RR, which receives a significant revamp for the 2024 model year.
The 2024 rendition of the CBR500R places a strong emphasis on style and technological advancements, building upon the substantial enhancements made to its brakes and suspension in 2022. This year's iteration showcases a bold redesign with aggressive bodywork, taking inspiration from the iconic CBR1000RR.
Highlighted within the technological upgrades are impressive additions to the CBR500R's interface. Leading the charge is a brand-new 5-inch TFT display, effortlessly controlled through the handlebar switchgear, offering riders a visually appealing and intuitive experience. Furthermore, the integration of Honda’s RoadSync app introduces seamless smartphone connectivity, enriching the bike's functionality by providing enhanced adjustability and connectivity options for riders.
Maintaining its core, the CBR500R continues to harness a robust 471cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, parallel-twin engine, featuring the well-known 180-degree crankshaft configuration. While some critique its subdued sound, the engine's hallmark lies in its linear power delivery, ideally suited for both novice and intermediate riders. Enhancements in the 2024 model include updated PGM-FI technology, pledging heightened efficiency and performance gains. This innovation reduces friction within the engine and introduces a quieter cam chain, aiming to refine the overall riding experience while bolstering the bike's capabilities.
For a more engaging experience, Honda introduces HSTC (Honda Selectable Torque Control), serving as a traction control system, augmenting stability for riders on all types of surfaces. This technology enhances confidence by actively managing the bike's torque output, especially in varied road conditions. Complementing this feature, a slipper clutch works to refine downshifts, particularly benefiting riders finding it challenging to execute smooth gear changes. This addition significantly contributes to a more forgiving and smoother overall ride.
