New and improved 2021 Yamaha MT-09 now available for P629K
Yamaha has given its powerful naked streetfighter a thorough refresh.
When Yamaha first introduced the MT-09 in the global market half a decade ago, the entire world stood in awe as this affordable naked streetfighter brought super naked levels of performance to the masses. It came with Yamaha’s reincarnation of a inline three-cylinder motor which bore a displacement of 847cc and pumped out an exhilarating 115 horsepower.
Fast forward some six years and a few iterations later, and Yamaha has given the MT-09 a ground-up refresh, updating everything from the bike’s engine, chassis, and styling. This has made Yamaha’s welterweight naked streetfighter even better and more capable. So, what exactly can we expect to see from the updated MT-09? Let’s take a closer look.
Powering the 2021 Yamaha MT-09 is a revised version of the iconic CP3 crossplane inline three-cylinder motor. Yamaha has bumped it up in terms of displacement by a few cubes, as it now displaces 890cc, as opposed to the previous bike’s 847cc. It continues to sport electronic fuel injection and four valves per cylinder, enabling it to produce a neck-snapping, wheelie-popping 117 horsepower. Keeping the power at bay are three riding modes selectable via a switch on the handlebar. ABS and traction control come standard, as well, making this bike surprisingly forgiving even for novice riders.
In the styling department, Yamaha has refreshed the MT-09 to further conform to the model range’s dark, mysterious styling which is meant to evoke what the company is calling the “Dark Side of Japan.” Accentuated by dark colorways, angular, jagged bodywork, and an eccentric singular LED headlight, the MT-09 definitely looks like no other motorcycle currently available in the market. The 2021 Yamaha MT-09 is now available in Yamaha big bike dealerships. This premium, high-performance machine will set you back P629,000–a significant markup from the previous generation’s price tag of P569,000.
