The Ducati Hypermotard has always been considered by many as the most un-Ducati of Ducati’s motorcycles. Unlike its more refined, purpose-driven stablemates, the Hypermotard was designed not to smash any performance records. Neither was it meant to ferry you around in comfort and sophistication. No, Ducati designed this machine simply to be fun to ride. Those of you who are familiar with this bike will know very well that it has quite the reputation as a hooligan bike.
Judging from the bike’s name itself, it’s clear to see what Ducati was going for when it first introduced this bike more than a decade ago. Motards, in and of themselves, are already extremely agile machines boasting incredible power-to-weight ratios and impressive wheelie-popping, tail-sliding performance. So, what happens when you add a 937cc, Testastretta L-twin into the mix? Well, complete and utter madness. That said, it’s no surprise that this bike continues to enjoy massive success all over the world.

For the 2022 model year, Ducati is coming in strong with a new and improved Hypermotard 950 SP. Carrying over the same formula for which this bike has been loved for many years, the updates to the new Hypermotard are rather minute. Ducati has given the 937cc L-twin motor a few refinements which have improved power delivery, and ultimately qualified the bike for Euro 5-compliance. The new Hypermotard rocks the same engine found in the all-new Ducati Monster, and pumps out an impressive 114 horsepower at 9,000 rpm.
The House of Borgo Panigale has also updated the new Hypermotard’s transmission. The engineers at Ducati tweaked the system slightly so as to provide better gear engagement and overall feel through the gear shifter, and an updated version of Ducati’s Quick Shift EVO technology. Ohlins continues to provide the suspension for this bike, and Marchesini forged wheels keep unsprung weight and rotational mass at bay. Lastly, the new bike sports a refreshed aesthetic, featuring a new livery with white striping over Ducati’s classic red paint color.
The new Ducati Hypermotard 950 will begin making its way to Italian showrooms in June, and is expected to begin trickling into the global market shortly thereafter. Pricing for the European market starts at €12,890, or around P757,300 for the base model, while the RVE comes in at €13,690 (P804,288). Lastly the top of the line SP variant fetches a sweet €16,990, or around P998,163. For reference, the outgoing Hypermotard starts at P990,000 for the base model, while the SP option retails for P1,500,000.
