When should you renew your motorcycle registration?
It's actually pretty similar to renewing a car’s registration.
Motorcycles often don't come with more than one year registration straight out of the dealership. Although it can be given out as an option by the dealership itself. Motorcycles like cars still have to renew their registration yearly.
Similar to that of cars, motorcycles have a set date in which they need to be registered; otherwise the owner will have to face fines. If you are one week late on your registration you face a fine of P200. This price increases, however, once you go past the one month mark. By the one month mark the penalty becomes 50 percent of your Motor Vehicle User’s Charge (MVUC).
Sometimes it can be difficult to figure out when you need to renew your motorocycle’s registration, especially in the event that there are no plates available for it yet. Here are a few tips to help you remember when your registration is due.
The last digit of a motorcycle's two letter four number plate indicates which month the vehicle will have to be registered in. The second to the last digit, on the other hand, indicates which week the bike has to be registered by.
The scheme for the week when you need to register your motorcycle goes as follows: 1, 2, and 3 for the first week of that month. You can only renew your registration on any working day from the 1st to the 7th of that month. 4, 5, and 6 will be for those who need to register on the second week of the month needed for registration. 7 and 8 will be for those who need to have their vehicles registered on the third week of the month, once again only registerable on working days. Finally 9 and 0 will be for the final week of the month.
The last digit of the plate number will dictate the month of when you need to renew your registration as follows: 1 for January, 2 for February, 3 for March, 4 for April, 5 for May, 6 for June, 7 for July, 8 for August, 9 for September, 0 for October onwards.
In the event that your motorcycle has no plate available, the date when the motorcycle was released to you will be your basis for your deadline of registration.
