Benelli could soon be using a new 799cc engine with KTM-derived technology
Benelli is stepping up its game with a new engine rumored to pump out up to 95 horsepower.
Given all the new Benelli models that have just been shown in China, 2023 is going to be an exciting year thanks to Benelli's fortunate parent business, Qianjiang Motors, a motorbike manufacturing giant in China. Along with additional naked versions in the works, the firm just debuted two new TRK models, the 800 and the 702. The most recent news on the Italian company owned by China? It turns out that a new engine is now being developed.
With practically all manufacturers concentrating their efforts on the 800cc to 900cc class, including the likes of KTM, Yamaha, Triumph, and Ducati, this sector of bikes has established itself as the new middleweight category in recent years. With a new 799cc engine with technology akin to that found in KTM and, more recently, CFMOTO's engines, Benelli intends to enter the fray as well. According to recent information from QJ Motor in China, a new engine that is rumored to power future Benelli vehicles is in the works. It's crucial to remember that Benelli already has a reliable 754cc parallel-twin engine that can be found in the Leoncino 800 and TRK 800. It would be reasonable to expect that this engine will ultimately evolve into something slightly bigger and more potent.
The new engine features a parallel-twin design and produces about 95 horsepower, however it's unclear if it's a new engine entirely or a modified version of Benelli's current engine. Now, if these displacement and power numbers made you think of KTM, you probably aren't alone. After all, fellow Chinese motorcycle manufacturer CFMOTO has already received the 790 LC8 engine rights from KTM.
If Benelli ever develops an adventure bike with this engine, it will directly compete with the CFMoto 800MT and BMW F 850 GS. Benelli might compete with models like the Ducati Monster, Yamaha MT-09, and KTM 890 Duke if it decides to enter the naked bike market with this engine. Additionally, Benelli has always had the advantage when it comes to affordability, so we can anticipate that whichever vehicles this new engine is installed in will be priced far lower than the competitors.
