KTM 990 RC R Overview

The KTM 990 RC R is KTM's offering for the supersport segment — a fully faired, track-capable machine built around a 947 cc DOHC parallel twin LC8c engine producing 127 hp and 103 Nm of torque. The engine has been tuned specifically for the RC R with a revised map and full 100% percent throttle opening calibration, and a new centralized stainless steel exhaust muffler that keeps mass close to the center of the bike. At 184 kg dry, it is a genuinely light machine for its class, and the chassis reflects that purpose: a 52.5/47.5 front-to-rear weight distribution, 33mm offset, and a 25-degree steering angle prioritize a planted front end and precise turn-in. The aluminum diecast swingarm uses a linkage construction for increased flex, which translates to better stability and feedback on both track and road surfaces.

Suspension is handled by a fully adjustable 48mm WP APEX open cartridge inverted fork with 130mm of travel up front — 30 clicks each for compression and rebound — and a WP APEX linear spring rear shock with adjustable high and low-speed compression, rebound, and preload. Michelin Power Cup 2 tires on lightweight aluminum wheels come as standard fitment, chosen for their quick warm-up characteristics and consistent performance across a wide temperature range. Braking is managed by Brembo HyPure four-piston calipers on dual 320mm front discs — a next-generation unit offering a more linear feel and better modulation than the previous generation — backed by a 240mm Galfer rear disc.

The electronics package is built around a 6D IMU feeding cornering traction control, cornering ABS, and motor slip regulation, with four standard ride modes (Rain, Street, Sport, Custom) and an available Track Mode that adds Launch Control, five-level anti-wheelie, adjustable throttle response, and four configurable ABS settings including Supermoto and Supermoto+. Footpegs are adjustable 25mm rearward and 17mm upward for a proper track position, while the 8.8-inch landscape TFT display supports telemetry readouts, offline GPS navigation, and full connectivity. Available in Electronic Orange or Black Metallic, and backed by a four-year manufacturer's warranty, the 990 RC R makes a strong case for riders who want a focused, road-legal supersport without stepping up to a full-litre machine.
