Yamaha unveils 2024 MT-09 with performance-oriented updates
A new headlight, updated bodywork, as well as new Brembo brakes elevate this middleweight naked bike’s performance.
Yamaha unveiled the 2024 MT-09 with a fresh look and several noteworthy upgrades. The new model packs the same beloved 890cc inline three-cylinder CP3 engine with liquid-cooling and dual overhead cams. It boasts a 78.0mm by 62.1mm bore and stroke, along with an 11.5 to one compression ratio, paired with a six-speed gearbox. What's exciting is that the 2024 MT-09 comes standard with a slipper clutch and Yamaha's third-generation up and down quickshifter for a smoother ride.
Suspension has been improved with a fully adjustable 41mm upside-down KYB front fork and an adjustable KYB shock with revised linkage settings in the rear. These changes align the bike with the new tires it sports.
Braking receives an upgrade as well, featuring a new Brembo radial master cylinder, dual 298mm front brake discs for precise control, and a single 245mm rear brake disc. The MT-09 comes equipped with ABS, and both the brake and clutch levers are adjustable from the factory. The 2024 MT-09 rides on 17-inch Yamaha spinforged aluminum wheels fitted with fresh rubber in the form of Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport S23 tires.
On the electronics front, the 2024 Yamaha MT-09 now boasts a larger five-inch full-color TFT display that also offers smartphone connectivity and navigation capabilities. Garmin's StreetCross app handles navigation, and the bike introduces three pre-programmed and two customizable ride modes. Riders can choose from Sport, Street, and Rain presets or create their own combinations with Yamaha Ride Control. Additionally, the MT-09 features a switchable back-slip regulator to reduce rear wheel lockup under heavy engine braking and standard cruise control. The turn signals now offer a convenient self-canceling feature.
The 2024 MT-09's redesign includes a slimmer LED headlight, a more compact fuel tank, and a revamped tail section that gives the bike an organic insect-like appearance. A new underseat USB-C socket and a two-duct intake design with acoustic amplifier grilles on top of the fuel tank add to its appeal.
Colors, pricing, and availability may vary by region. In the US, you can choose from Team Yamaha Blue, Midnight Cyan, and Matte Raven Black for the 2024 MT-09. As for the Philippines market, the updated MT-09 launch is still uncertain, while the current generation MT-09 remains available with an MSRP of P659,000.
