Yamaha takes the covers off the all-electric Aerox E in India
It features 117 km of driving range, with a power output of 12.6 hp and 48 Nm of torque.
Yamaha just launched the fully electric Aerox E in India, marking the brand’s second electric scooter offering for the country after the EC-06.
Starting with the looks, the Aerox E borrows heavily from its gas-powered sibling in the design department, sporting the same aggressive styling, light blue graphics, and chunky LED headlight setup that made the original a hit. Under the seat, though, everything's different. Instead of a fuel tank, the Aerox E is powered by two removable 1.5kWh battery packs, and depending on whether you're running one or both, charging times shift from three hours and 10 minutes up to six hours and 20 minutes for a full charge.
Power comes courtesy of a permanent magnet synchronous motor putting out 12.6 hp alongside a hefty 48 Nm of torque. Three ride modes give riders some flexibility: Economy for stretching range, Standard for everyday use, and Power for when you actually want to make use of all the torque the electric motor can give. There's also a Power Boost function tucked in for quick bursts of acceleration when overtaking or merging into traffic.
Top speed lands at a claimed 95.5kph unladen, which is more than plenty for city work and even the occasional highway stretch. Braking duties are taken care of by a pair of discs, backed by single-channel ABS for added confidence. Wheel sizes remain the same as the ICE version at 14 inches front and rear, wrapped in a 110/80 tire up front and a wider 140/70 for the rear wheel.
Yamaha rounded things out with traction control, Y-Connect Bluetooth pairing, and a reverse mode that'll come in handy for tight parking situations.
Pricing sits at INR 281,600, which works out to roughly P181,000 when converted to Philippine pesos. Range checks in at 117 km on a full charge when it’s fitted with both battery packs, solid numbers for a scooter built with city riding in mind.
There's no word yet on whether the Aerox E will make it beyond India's borders. That said, the regular Aerox already enjoys a strong following in markets like the Philippines, and with electric two-wheelers slowly following four-wheeled EVs in terms of market attention, there may be a strong case for Yamaha to bring it here in the future.
