Yamaha refreshes the Tricity 155 with minor refinements to chassis, suspension, and electronics
Would you like to see the refreshed three-wheeled scooter enter the Philippine market?

Yamaha has updated its popular three-wheeled scooter, the Tricity, with a plethora of new features. The Tricity garnered fame for its distinctive three-wheeled design, which is available in 125 and 155 flavors. The Niken 900, which is based on the MT-09, has a similar front end design to the Tricity. In September 2022, the upgraded three-wheeled scooter will arrive in Europe.
The Tricity will be equipped with Yamaha's tried-and-true 155cc engine for the 2022 model year, comparable to what we see in the Yamaha NMAX and Aerox. Yamaha's patented Blue Core technology takes center stage in the 155cc engine, which has been praised for its excellent performance and efficiency. Thanks to a new forged piston and cylinder head, as well as a larger intake valve designed to boost power and response over the rev range, the Tricity's liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine is estimated to produce 15 horsepower.
The front end of the Tricity has also undergone considerable changes. The LMW Ackermann steering system has been somewhat upgraded to provide a more natural feel, particularly while cornering. According to Yamaha, the changes are designed to maintain both front wheels rotating in the same direction even when the scooter is leaned over whilst taking corners at speed. This translates to more precise and confident handling, and an overall safer and more enjoyable ride.

Aside from the improved front end shape, the new Tricity also gets minor chassis updates. It's a little longer than the previous model, having a 60mm longer wheelbase. The scooter has also received a new rear shock absorber. Improved engine mounts are also touted to improve the scooter's balance and reduce engine vibrations. Because of the somewhat longer wheelbase, the scooter should be more stable in a straight line as well as when taking fast curves.
Yamaha has also fitted the Tricity’s starting system with a proprietary Starter Generator Control Unit and a Smart Motor Generator. This eliminates the need for a traditional starter motor because the crankshaft is directly turned. The Tricity can start a lot more quietly because the arrangement eliminates the loud noise of a traditional starter motor. A new Start/ Stop mechanism has also been introduced for improved fuel efficiency. Starting in September 2022, the new Tricity will be offered throughout Europe, with the updated model expected to hit the rest of the world shortly thereafter.
