Yamaha debuts an XSR700 Scrambler at EICMA 2022
The Yamaha XSR700 makes a statement at EICMA this year, as a custom straight off the factory floor.
EICMA 2022 is booming with new releases from all the major, boutique, and minor brands in the industry. Yamaha, however, released what could be considered a minor update for many, but a major one for many XSR fans who are fond of scramblers.
The Yamaha XSR700 Legacy was unveiled at this year’s trade show, and it's ready to hit some dirt straight out of the factory floor. Fans of the XSR700 know that it can make for a capable scrambler with the right mods, tires, and the right rider. After all, Yamaha’s CP2 engine also powers the Ténéré 700, the MT-07, and the new R7. The torque on tap in this characterful engine makes for an easy choice as an all-around fun machine.
Yamaha sent out a press release detailing a few things about the new XSR700 Legacy, but it was a little starved of details here and there. However, we all know that the 690cc parallel twin engine powering the XSR700 will remain constant in the lineup and is Euro 5 compliant of course. There will be a new color added to the lineup, however.
No modifications were made to the frame, but there are a ton of bolt-on scrambler bits that make the Legacy, the Legacy. We get a classic scrambler and Speed block paint job finished in a new colorway for 2023. As for the other bits, we get a special scrambler-style handlebar with grips and chunky footpegs. Like the 2022 refresh we get locally, we get LED headlights and taillights, but this time with a cheeky little headlight grille in the front for that scrambler vibe. On top of that, Yamaha is fitting Pirelli MT 60 RS tires from the factory which are dual-sport and ready for some light off-road action. A subtle change that XSR700 owners and fans might notice is that Yamaha actually relocated the gauge pod further away and higher to make room for the bar brace.
As for tech and safety features, Yamaha didn’t mention anything about any additions to the Legacy edition, but it’s likely that we can still expect ABS to be standard on the XSR700. Though, being a more off-road going machine, could Team Blue possibly lift the switchable rear ABS system from the Ténéré 700? Maybe? We’ll just have to wait for more details from Yamaha.
