Royal Enfield patents the Interceptor Bear 650 in India
The new iteration of the retro model is expected to be an off-road focused model.
The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 is considered by many to be a highly successful model produced by Royal Enfield. Together with its sportier counterpart, the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650, the Interceptor has contributed significantly to the rise of the previously unknown Indian manufacturer to worldwide fame, establishing it as a brand recognized for providing stylish, high-performing motorcycles at an accessible price point.
Royal Enfield has made improvements to their 650 Twins for the 2023 model-year, which includes the addition of alloy wheels that feature tubeless tires. This upgrade has been well received by many motorcycle enthusiasts who were seeking better performance from their bikes. The new tubeless alloy wheels not only reduce the weight of the bikes, but also enhance their handling capabilities and offer a wider range of tire choices for riders.
Despite the recent updates to the 650 Twins, it seems that Royal Enfield is not done expanding its Interceptor 650 lineup. The parent company of Royal Enfield, Eicher Motors Limited, has filed a patent in India for a new trademark name called "Royal Enfield Interceptor Bear 650." Although the company has not made any official statements or released any previews about this potential new version of the Interceptor 650, it is clear that Royal Enfield is still exploring ways to evolve and innovate their product line.
Regarding performance, it is likely that the special-edition model will remain similar to the existing Interceptor 650. The motorcycle will likely retain its 648cc, air-cooled, fuel-injected, parallel-twin engine, which delivers 47 horsepower and 36 pound-feet of torque. However, if Royal Enfield is indeed developing a new version of the Interceptor 650, it is possible that it will be unveiled during India's festive season, which usually falls in the third quarter of the year.
Despite the lack of official information, motorcycle enthusiasts in India have been speculating about the potential features of the rumored "Royal Enfield Interceptor Bear 650." Royal Enfield has a history of releasing special editions of its models and encouraging customization. Some sources suggest that the Bear 650 could be a scrambler-style motorcycle with off-road capabilities. It is also likely that the bike will feature a unique paint scheme and special bolt-on accessories, consistent with previous special editions from Royal Enfield.
