Ducati has launched yet another new motorcycle as part of its World Première 2022. This time, it’s the DesertX, an off-road-focused adventure-tourer that features some of Ducati’s most sophisticated design and technology.
Looking at the bike, what you might immediately notice is the striking design. Creating the DesertX took a massive leap for Ducati, as it essentially required a different approach than what it had done for decades. So, the company found inspiration from Dakar rally racing. Mixed with modern sensibilities, it resulted in a motorcycle that’s steeped in history yet decidedly modern. The solid and clean lines look purposeful and minimalist at the same time, evoking a kind of quiet capability.

To bring this motorcycle to life, it needs a nimble, lightweight, and powerful engine. That’s why Ducati equipped the DesertX with the latest version of its 937cc, twin-cylinder, Testastretta 11-degree desmodromic engine. It’s 1.7 kg lighter than the previous generation, and it makes a hearty 110 hp with 92 Nm of torque. Ducati tuned the engine specifically for off-road use, shortening the lower gear ratios and extending the sixth.
Supporting an engine like this one demands an equally strong chassis. The DesertX features an off-road frame built to endure the toughest riding conditions. It’s also the first Modern Ducati with a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel setup. Combined with 250 mm of ground clearance and a long stroke suspension, the DesertX has all the ingredients for a bike you can take anywhere.

On top of everything, the DesertX gets all the same advanced electronics you’ll find in any other Ducati. There are six riding modes available, with the Enduro and Rally modes serving as off-road options.

The DesertX also gets Ducati’s rider assistance features, including cruise control, traction control, wheelie control, engine brake control, cornering ABS, and an up/down quickshifter. Other notable features include full LED lighting and a 5-inch TFT display with Ducati Multimedia System.
The 2022 Ducati DesertX will be available in North America beginning in June 2022. The adventure-tourer will retail for $16,795 or around P845,500. Local availability is unclear as of now, but it wouldn’t be impossible for Ducati Philippines to bring this model over, especially with enough demand.
