Kawasaki unveils Eliminator Plaza Edition in Japan
The Plaza Edition puts an urban spin on a neo-retro cruiser.
The Kawasaki Eliminator has long been the approachable side of the cruiser world. While big V-twins dominate the image of the segment, they can also feel intimidating—heavy, expensive, and often too much for first-time riders. The Eliminator, on the other hand, has always been about making the cruiser lifestyle more accessible.
It keeps things simple: a lightweight chassis, a low seat, and a parallel-twin engine tuned for smooth, predictable delivery. Power comes from a 398cc liquid-cooled twin making 48hp at 10,000rpm and 37Nm at 8,000rpm. It’s paired with a six-speed gearbox and slipper clutch, all in a package weighing just 176kg. That balance makes it friendly to new riders while still being fun for experienced ones.
The bike’s ergonomics and chassis also lean into rider confidence. With a 735mm seat height, most riders can flat-foot at stops. Suspension comes via a 41mm front fork and twin rear shocks, while braking is handled by discs front and rear with ABS. The 12-liter fuel tank may be compact, but efficiency makes it suitable for daily use and weekend rides alike.
What’s interesting about the Japan-only Plaza Edition is how it upgrades the formula. It adds practical touches like a handlebar-mounted USB-C charging socket and a GPS-enabled dual dash cam system—features that make sense in today’s traffic conditions. Exclusive paint finishes give it more personality, though it skips some of the SE trim’s cosmetic flair like fork boots and two-tone colorways.
Even if this Plaza Edition never reaches the Philippines, the direction is clear. Entry-level cruisers no longer have to feel stripped down. Kawasaki is showing that even beginner bikes can deliver both style and useful tech, raising the bar for what “accessible” really means.
