India's Ola Electric is getting ready to unveil its first electric motorcycle
Is there a place for any of these models on Philippine roads?
Electric motorcycles are gaining traction in various markets around the world, and one name that's been making waves is Ola Electric. While currently focused on India, this startup has turned heads globally with its affordable, tech-packed S1 scooter. From the outset, Ola had big plans for the EV space, and those ambitions are now coming to life.
Ola Electric is expanding its portfolio from scooters to electric motorcycles. The company plans to release its first electric motorcycle between June and December 2025. Although we have over a year to wait, Ola has revealed four enticing concept bikes: the Adventure, Cruiser, Roadster, and the futuristic Diamondhead. While it's unclear which model will launch first, reservations for all are open on Ola’s website, and life-size prototypes have already been built.
These prototypes feature clean, minimalist designs with neutral tones, reminiscent of products from Apple and Xiaomi. Given Ola's success—holding 49% of India's electric scooter market—these bikes are poised to make a significant impact when they hit the streets.
The Adventure, Cruiser, and Roadster have self-explanatory names, each catering to different riding styles. The Diamondhead, however, stands out with its futuristic, shape-shifting design, looking like something straight out of a sci-fi movie. Though the Diamondhead might seem far-fetched for now, Ola has a track record of turning ambitious concepts into reality.
Electric motorcycle concepts are common, but Ola's proven dedication to the EV market sets them apart. With Asia leading in EV innovations, Ola is among the many startups from India and China aiming for global impact. In just a few years, Ola has shown that it’s serious about being a leader in the EV two wheeler market.
So, with the growing global momentum for electric motorcycles, could the Philippines be the next market to embrace this trend? The local motorcycle enthusiast community is strong, and the interest in cutting-edge, eco-friendly technology is rising. Is the Philippine market ready for electric motorcycles?
