Chinese manufacturer Niu unveils XQi electric dirt bike
The XQi 500 leads Niu’s expanded 2026 XQi lineup with proper hardware and 125cc-equivalent performance.
Niu Technologies has just revealed its expanded XQi electric motorcycle lineup, and one thing is clear right away. This brand is no longer content building clever urban EVs with off-road styling. With the XQi 500, Niu is making a very direct play for riders who actually expect performance.
What separates the XQi 500 from everything that came before it is commitment. Nearly 40 horsepower on tap and a claimed top speed of about 68 miles per hour push it into the same conversation as gas-powered 125cc motorcycles. That alone changes how this bike should be judged. It’s no longer about being “good for an electric.” It either works as a motorcycle, or it doesn’t.
The supporting hardware suggests Niu understands that shift. The XQi 500 gets ABS and traction control as standard, paired with proper spoked wheels sized at 19 inches in front and 18 inches at the rear. Suspension is fully adjustable, ground clearance is a generous 290 mm, and braking comes from large front and rear discs. This is real-bike equipment, not checklist filler.
Power comes from a centrally mounted electric motor driving the rear wheel via chain, fed by a 96V lithium-ion battery using 21700 cells. Claimed range sits at around 37 miles, with a full charge taking roughly four hours. Ride modes include Wet, Comfort, Sport, and a customizable Master setting, giving riders more control than most small electric bikes offer.
The rest of the lineup fills out the gaps. The updated XQi 300 replaces the older XQi3 with modest performance gains and better components, while the XQi 400 slots neatly in between with more speed and range while keeping weight low.
The XQi 400 and XQi 500 are expected to arrive in the second half of 2026. If the numbers hold up, the XQi 500 may be the bike that finally forces riders to look past the badge and focus on what’s actually being offered.
