CFMoto unveils the 500SR in China
The CFMoto 500SR develops a max 82 hp and a 12,500 rpm redline.
CFMoto pulled the wraps off its 500SR at the Chengdu Tianfu International Circuit the first week of April, giving the world its first proper look at the Chinese brand's new four-cylinder sportbike. We caught a preview back in early March when the bike cleared type approval in China, but now we've got the full picture, specs included.
Power comes from a 498 cc inline-four that first appeared in the retro-styled CFMoto 500SR Voom last year, now upgraded with revised camshafts and a reworked gearshift. The motor runs a wide 63 mm bore with a short 40.1 mm stroke, an architecture that pushes peak power to a claimed 78 hp at 12,500 rpm. CFMoto also claims a ram-air boost brings that figure up to 82 hp at speed. Torque sits at a claimed 48.8 Nm at 11,000 rpm.
Fuel delivery is handled by Bosch injection, though the throttle setup stays old-school mechanical rather than ride-by-wire. That means no suite of riding modes, but dual-mode traction control does make the cut. There's also a quickshifter on board, though it's upshift-only. The chassis is a chromoly steel trellis frame paired with an aluminum subframe.
As for the suspension setup, the 500SR gets a 41mm inverted fork with 30-step preload adjustability up front, and a monoshock with 16 steps of both preload and compression damping adjustment out back. Braking hardware consists of Nissin four-piston radial calipers gripping dual 300 mm rotors at the front, with a 220 mm single-piston setup at the rear. Continental ABS is standard and can be switched off at the rear. A steering damper with 24 stages of adjustability rounds things out.
For now, CFMoto is focused on its home market, and that makes sense. The appetite for small-displacement four-cylinder sportbikes in China is basically what's driving this entire new wave of machines, and the domestic market remains the priority. That said, a path to export is hopefully not out of the question.
