The CFMOTO 800MT ES brings semi-active suspension to the middleweight ADV space
The new 800MT ES adds KYB-developed semi-active suspension and a full electronics suite to CFMOTO's middleweight adventure bike.
CFMOTO has come a long way from its early days as an engine manufacturer. Founded in 1989, the brand steadily evolved into a full-scale motorcycle maker with global reach, helped along by deep technical ties with KTM and a growing presence in racing and production bikes. What’s made CFMOTO matter in recent years isn’t just volume, but its habit of pushing higher-end tech into more affordable segments.
That approach shows up clearly in the new CFMOTO 800MT ES. This is the latest addition to the 800MT adventure-touring lineup, and its headline feature is semi-active electronic suspension developed with KYB. Instead of manually adjusting preload and damping, the system adapts in real time based on road conditions, load, and how you’re riding.
That matters because adventure bikes rarely live one kind of life. One day it’s a solo commute, the next it’s loaded with panniers or a pillion. Semi-active suspension helps keep the bike balanced across those scenarios without constant fiddling. It’s less about chasing performance numbers and more about reducing friction in day-to-day riding.
The electronics package backs this up. The 800MT ES runs Bosch stability control, a six-axis IMU, traction control, cornering ABS, and four riding modes. Together, these systems allow the bike to stay composed when grip changes or surfaces get uneven, which is exactly where big adventure bikes tend to get stressful. Power comes from a Euro5+ compliant 799cc liquid-cooled parallel twin, producing a claimed 67.0kW at 9,250rpm and 67Nm at 8,000rpm. It’s CFMOTO's own version of the same engine platform used in the KTM 790 Adventure, tuned here for touring-friendly performance rather than outright aggression.
Suspension travel is listed at 160mm up front and 150mm at the rear. Braking is handled by twin 320mm front discs with J.Juan radial-mounted four-piston calipers, again supported by Bosch cornering ABS. Touring essentials are all present: an 8in TFT display, full LED lighting with DRLs, a 19L fuel tank, and a 231kg kerb weight. Two new colors are offered, Neptune Blue and Nebula White.
Pricing and availability haven’t been confirmed yet. For context, the current 800MT Touring in the Philippines sits around P535,000, which gives a rough idea of where the ES could land once it arrives.
The bigger takeaway is what this bike represents. Semi-active suspension and advanced rider aids are no longer exclusive to flagship adventure bikes. When brands like CFMoto bring this tech into the middleweight space, everyone benefits, whether you buy this bike or not.
