Maxi-scooters continue to see a gradual increase in popularity thanks to the undeniable practicality and versatility they offer to motorcyclists. Capable of long-distance touring, as well as daily commuting duties, maxi-scooters offer utmost comfort and ease of use, in a package that’s stylish and practical. One of the more popular maxi-scooters in the premium segment, especially in the Philippine market, is the BMW C400 GT.
Initially launched in 2018, the BMW C 400 GT is a stylish maxi-scooter which boasts BMW engineering and performance, with the ease of use of a scooter. For the 2021 model year, BMW has launched an update to the scooter which consists of new styling, colors, and additional features. For starters, the updated scooter gets the same 350cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. Producing a decent 34 horsepower and 35 Nm of torque, updates to the engine include an electronic throttle-by-wire system and a new engine control unit (ECU). The exhaust system has also received a few updates for global emissions standards compliance in the form of a redesigned catalytic converter and wideband oxygen sensor.

Transferring the power to the rear wheel is a continuously variable transmission (CVT) which is commonly found on scooters of all sizes. The 2021 BMW C400 GT features revised clutch springs that offer an overall smoother and more comfortable riding experience, particularly during low-speed maneuvers and heavy traffic situations. The scooter also receives slight updates to its electronics. For instance, the bike’s Automatic Stability Control system (ASC) has been recalibrated to be more responsive, improving safety while riding on wet roads or gravel.
Other updates to the 2021 BMW C400 GT include revised under-seat storage lighting, and a USB charging socket fitted onto the right-side front storage compartment. The new scooter comes in three stylish color options, namely Alpine White, Kallisto Grey Metallic, and Triple Black. As far as pricing and availability in the local market is concerned, we’ll have to wait for BMW Motorrad Philippines to make the official announcement. In the meantime, the current generation C400 GT retails starting at P595,000.
