BMW showcases Concept RR superbike at Goodwood Festival of Speed
BMW is still serious about internal-combustion performance with its next-generation superbike.
Something strange and loud tore up the hill at the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed—and it wasn’t a race car. It looked like a superbike, but sharper. It sounded like a race machine, but angrier. And it wasn’t piloted by some anonymous test rider either. It was none other than BMW Motorrad CEO Markus Flasch, riding what turned out to be the BMW Concept RR.
Now before you roll your eyes at the word “concept,” this one’s different. It isn’t a futuristic sculpture with hubless wheels and no engine. This is a real, working machine. And judging by how hard it was being ridden, it’s far more than a showpiece.
The Concept RR is believed to be built around the same inline-four from the M 1000 RR—a 999cc WorldSBK-derived engine that already pushes over 230hp in race trim. It’s also loaded with high-level electronics like adjustable engine braking, track-ready traction control, and custom power delivery modes. Even the quickshifter uses a GP-style reverse shift pattern, a setup usually reserved for serious track use. And yes, it has working headlights, which raises the question—could BMW be toying with a street-legal version?
Compared to the current BMW S 1000 RR, the Concept RR seems like a more extreme evolution. And that’s saying something, because the S 1000 RR already makes 210hp and comes loaded with race-inspired tech, from its lightweight chassis to its suite of riding modes and electronic assists.
If anything, the Concept RR feels like a teaser for what’s coming next—a glimpse into how BMW plans to keep pushing the superbike game forward. Whether it becomes the next-gen S 1000 RR, a new M model, or something entirely different, one thing’s certain: it’s loud, fast, and hard to ignore.
