BMW Motorrad Philippines announces recall on select BMW R 1300 GS models
The recall is limited to R 1300 GS Adventure units fitted with BMW’s Automated Shift Assistant.
BMW Motorrad Philippines has issued a targeted recall involving a small number of R 1300 GS Adventure motorcycles fitted with its Automated Shift Assistant system, flagging a potential hardware issue linked to the clutch mechanism.
The advisory was released by BMW Motorrad’s local distributor, SMC Asia Car Distributors Corporation, which explained that a specific bolt used in the ASA clutch release lever may not meet the correct specification. While the bike remains rideable, the incorrect fastener could eventually result in abnormal noises or changes in clutch feel as mileage builds up.
Importantly, the recall does not apply to all R 1300 GS Adventure units on the road. Only motorcycles equipped with the Automated Shift Assistant are covered, meaning owners of standard manual-shift variants are unaffected. This keeps the scope relatively limited, but BMW is still moving proactively to address the concern before it develops into something more serious.
Affected owners will be contacted directly by BMW Motorrad-authorized service centers to schedule an inspection. If a motorcycle is confirmed to be part of the recall batch, the necessary component will be replaced at no cost. Riders who want immediate clarity can also check their bike’s status themselves by entering the Vehicle Identification Number on BMW Motorrad’s official recall checker online.
BMW Motorrad describes the action as a preventive step, reinforcing its focus on safety and long-term durability, especially for a flagship adventure model that’s expected to cover long distances and demanding terrain. For local riders, the recall serves as a reminder that even high-end, newly launched motorcycles aren’t immune to production oversights, and that timely manufacturer-backed fixes are part of modern ownership.
